New clinic opens in Spotsylvania to help those who can’t afford care
Fredericksburg Christian Health Center has opened a satellite clinic at 7610 Heths Salient St., Suite 116, in Spotsylvania County.
The Fredericksburg Christian Health Center is a nonprofit organization that serves patients who cannot afford medical care. Of these, 60 percent are insured and the rest are uninsured.
Michelle Goeden, who manages the center’s office at 1129 Heatherstone Dr., said that the center has seen an increase in the number of uninsured patients and has a waiting list for those seeking its services.
“It’s for a wide variety of reasons,” she said.
Some are homeless, some have lost their jobs and can’t afford health insurance, and some had individual policies that are no longer valid under the Affordable Care Act, Goeden said.
The new clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday this month. The goal is for it to be open daily with some extended night and weekend hours beginning in January, Goeden said.
