HobbyTown USA will open in Spotsylvania
A HobbyTown USA is expected to open Aug. 1 in Chancellor Center shopping center off State Route 3.
It will be located in the 3,000-square-foot space that was the former home of Fitness Stop, which has moved to roomier quarters in the shopping center.
HobbyTown USA is known for carrying such things as radio-controlled cars and planes, electric trains, plastic model kits, science kits, educational toys and games.
The Spotsylvania County location will be the fifth for franchisees Scott and Kelly Dayton and Scott Pollock, who is Kelly Dayton’s brother. Their first store was in Virginia Beach, and they added two in Richmond and one in Newport News.
The partners chose the busy State Route 3 corridor for their store here because they felt it’s a great market and is close to Manassas, which used to have a HobbyTown USA, Scott Dayton said.
He said the store appeals to parents who are looking for things to do with their children, as well as Civil War buffs and those interested in other periods of military history.
“We’ll also sell metal detectors, which is interesting to Civil War relic hunters,” Dayton said. “We do a good business selling them at our other stores, and hope to do so in Fredericksburg as well.”
