Jersey Mike’s Subs to open in Stafford Marketplace
Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, will open on June 6 in Stafford Marketplace shopping center.
Operator Pat Foley will hold a grand opening and a fundraiser through June 10 to support the Semper Fi Fund., a nonprofit that provides immediate financial support for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
“Stafford is located very closely to the Marine Corps Base Quantico, and since many Marines and their families live here in Stafford I thought the Semper Fi Fund would be the perfect charity partner,” said Foley in a prepared statement.
The store, located at 1495 Stafford Marketplace, will be distributing 15,000 coupons in the community for a free sub in exchange for a $1 contribution to the fund.
“The Semper Fi Fund was created by Marines, for Marines and provides support for the men and women who are returning home from combat,” Foley said. “It is important that we support these American heroes who have sacrificed so much for our country and I am proud to work with them for our grand opening fundraiser. Stafford is very much a family oriented community, and I look forward to introducing Jersey Mike’s and adding to the already strong fiber of this community.”
Jersey Mike’s, a sub sandwich franchise with more than 750 stores open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support. In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
Jersey Mike’s got its start in 1956 in the seaside town of Point Pleasant, N.J. It was purchased in 1972 by Peter Cancro, a 17-year-old high school student in Point Pleasant who’d been working at what was then Mike’s Subs since he was 14. He had the backing of his football coach, who was also a banker.
When customers who’d flocked to the Jersey Shore during the summer began requesting a Mike’s in their hometowns, Cancro began researching the possibilities of franchising the Mike’s concept. He changed the name from Mike’s Subs to Jersey Mike’s Subs to capture the authenticity of where the authentic sub sandwich was born, and started franchising the business in 1987.
Hours for the new Stafford County location will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. The phone number is 540/288-5443.
