Food Lion is top cat in area grocery market share
The Food Lion Group, which includes Bloom and Bottom Dollar, once again heads the pack in grocery market share for the Fredericksburg region.
But that doesn’t mean it’s the top cat in every county in our region, according to the Food World magazine’s 2011 market share study.
Here’s a list of the market leaders by locality, along with their sales figures and percentage of the market. Please note that Food World combined Fredericksburg with Spotsylvania County:
Caroline County: Food Lion, $14.3 million, 79 percent
Culpeper County: Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Food, which trades as Martin’s in Virginia, $33.2 million, $26.28 percent
King George County: Food Lion, $22.5 million, 52.57 percent
Orange County: Food Lion, $30.2 million, 45.62 percent
Spotsylvania County: Walmart, $122.3 million, 18.54 percent
Stafford County: Landover, Md.-based Giant Food $101.2 million, 34.03 percent
Westmoreland County: Food Lion, $22.4 million, 48.80 percent
