Tropical Storm Karen and its potential impacts

By now you may have heard that Tropical Storm Karen has formed over the southern Gulf of Mexico.  The current National Hurricane Center forecast “cone” is shown below:

As you can see the cone – wider as time goes by due to track uncertainty – has the remnants of Karen centered over Fredericksburg at one a.m. Tuesday.  The exact forecast track will jump around a bit over the next few days as the models get a better handle on it but it is safe to say that these tropical  remnants plus an approaching cold front could dump quite a bit of rain on the city and surrounding vicinities starting sometime Monday.  You may want to plan ahead accordingly.
