Sunshine, blue skies, and leaf colors

RELATED: View our list of Fredericksburg Area Pumpkin Patches here.

Now that the pesky low level cold air damming wedge is a faint memory the October sunshine is back, reminding us what autumn in Fredericksburg can really be like.  This “Chamber of Commerce” weather looks to continue through most of the weekend, with sunshine and high temperatures in the low 60s (F) today – Thursday – and rising into the low 70s by Sunday.  A weak cold front will slide through the area tomorrow with some clouds but we won’t see any rain until the next system enters the picture sometime Sunday night…and even then the chances are low.  That’s quite a contrast from the Great Plains and upper Midwest states, which are under the gun for severe weather today, Friday, and especially Saturday, the day that this Storm Prediction Center graphic pertains to:

But here in the ‘Burg this coming weekend will be perfect for getting out to enjoy the weather and beginning the annual checkout of the fall foliage festival of colors.  It’s a bit early around here for most trees so a trip westward toward the mountains might pay off for a look at the colors.  This  article from WTVR in Richmond provides a look at some leaf conditions and typical dates for coloration here in Virginia.

So whether you get out to look at the leaves or to experience the autumn conditions this will be a good weekend in the Fredericksburg area either way.   Enjoy!
