Sunday morning look ahead

A quick look ahead shows the models still on track for a fair amount of rain during the first part of the week.  Right now showers are still south of I-64 but they will be marching northward as today (Sunday) wears on.  The total amount of potential rainfall for Sunday morning thru Wednesday morning is still about one inch along the I-95 corridor as shown in this graphic:

The lightest blue shade is the 1.25 inch region

An added wrinkle is a significant potential for some severe weather Tuesday afternoon as the next cold front is forecast to cross the Piedmont during the afternoon and evening, the best time for thunderstorms.  The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued this graphic for their Day 3 convective outlook:

If that red 30% probability area holds up the SPC might even consider issuing a Moderate Risk for Tuesday’s weather, so be aware of that potential.  More on that in a later post.
