Weigh in on trout-management plan
If you fish for trout, you can toss in your two-cents worth on how the state manages its put-and-take fishery. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and Virginia Tech’s Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation are putting together a statewide stocked trout management plan. It would be similar to plans developed to manage turkeys and bears. Get more information here about the plan. There’s a series of statewide meetings, including one in Culpeper on Oct. 22, to discuss it.
Trout are stocked right here in Fredericksburg–in the Old Cossey Pond across the tennis courts along Ken more Avenue–as part of Virginia’s Urban Fishing Program. And many area anglers head up to streams in Madison and neighboring counties in the mountains to catch stocked rainbow, brook and brown trout. Review VDGIF’s trout fishing guide here.
