Virginia sites on conservation group’s endangered list
The Southern Environmental Law Center in Charlottesville released its annual “Top 10 Endangered Places in the Southeast,” and a few of them are in Virginia. Virginia and Tennessee’s mountains are listed due to the effects of mountaintop removal mining, along with efforts by Virginia Uranium Inc. to lift a longstanding moratorium on uranium mining in Pittsylvania County. State Sen. John Watkins last week pulled his bill supporting the proposal.
