More efficient, environment-friendly wood burning
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that about 12 million Americans use wood-burning stoves. And there are probably thousands of people in the Fredericksburg area who fire up the stove each winter morning. With the wood-heating season upon us, the agency has some tips for burning wood efficiently, while helping reduce emissions in its Burn Wise Program. They include: upgrading to an EPA-certified stove or fireplace insert; burn only dry, seasoned wood; have your stove and chimney regularly checked by a professional.
