North Anna reactor shuts down overnight
Dominion power reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that Unit 2 automatically shut down due to an issue with a steam generator. Here’s what the company said: “Unit 2 at the North Anna Power Station shut down automatically early Wednesday morning when four valves that govern the flow of steam that spins the turbine generator simultaneously closed. The closing of the valves caused the reactor to shut down.” Richard Zuercher, a spokesman for the company’s nuclear operations, said that all systems and equipment functioned as designed to shut the unit down safely, and that station workers are looking into the cause, and whether it might be related to a Unit 2 outage earlier this month.
