Planned third reactor at North Anna has Carolina connection
If and when Dominion power decides to build a third nuclear reactor at its North Anna Power Station, the company will be working with Mitsubishi Nuclear Energy Systems in Charlotte, N.C. That’s because Unit 3 would be built by the Tokyo-based company. MNES today formally opened its Charlotte Engineering Center, which will provide primary support to that company’s new-reactor projects in the U.S., according to a press release. Dominion and Texas-based Luminant Energy plan to use Mitsubishi’s US-APWR, a new-generation pressurized water reactor design. Dominion’s application for a combined license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build and operate Unit 3 is still under review.
