River land preserved
Three acres downstream from Ferry Farm on the Fredericksburg side of the Rappahannock, have been preserved by the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust. The land is owned by ExxonMobil Corp., which donated a conservation easement. The easement will protect a wetland area and forest linking a wooded area between Hazel Run and Deep Run. NVCT president Mike Nardolilli says the oil company’s decision “to permanently protect these woodlands shows that corporations and conservationists can work closely together to save nearby nature in populated areas of our commonwealth.’ See my story tomorrow for more details.
