Long awaited uranium-mining study available
The National Academy of Sciences has weighed in on uranium mining with its own study, which examines, among other things, potential health and environmental risks, world markets, and how it would be done in Virginia. The study has no recommendation on whether it should be done, as state lawmakers take up whether to lift a mining and processing moratorium in their upcoming session. Virginia Uranium Inc. wants to mine and process the radioactive ore at its Coles Hill Site in Pittsylvania County. The NAS study is of interest here because it says only the Pittsylvania site is commercially viable, for now. Here’s a recent story.
