Eagle Nation Day returns Sept. 6

The University of Mary Washington is offering its free “Eagle Nation Day” festival again next week.

Open to the community, the event is sponsored by the UMW department of athletics, and starts at 10 a.m. on Sept. 6 at the Battleground Athletic Complex on Hanover Street.

This year’s theme is “celebrating girls and women in sport.”

To that point, attendees can watch the school’s women’s soccer and field hockey teams play. The UMW women’s soccer game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. and UMW field hockey is hosting a ceremony that begins at 3 p.m.

For children, the event will host inflatables, water balloon fights, mascots, horse and pony rides, an interactive Children’s Museum of Richmond play space, and a Disney movie “Brave,” depicting a strong female protagonist, showing at 10:30 a.m.

The first 500 children in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.
