Two new exhibits for UMW Galleries

The University of Mary Washington Galleries will debut two new exhibitions during the upcoming school year.

The Ridderhof Martin Gallery will show The [Visual] Poetry of Logical Ideas, which ”explores the relationship between rationality and beauty- between the perfection of a conceptual form and the visual pleasure it manifests,” according to a release about the show. This gallery will also exhibit the Arthur Hash: Wearable Objects, a look at his recent works that utilize digital fabrication technologies, such as 3-D printing.

Melchers Gray Purchase Award Showcase will be shown in the duPont Gallery. The retrospective will showcase all of the outstanding student recipients of this award. Each year since 1995, artworks are purchased from students by the UMW Galleries and become part of its permanent collection. UMW has collected more than 20 paintings, photographs, sculptures and multimedia works by students which will be shown together for the first time.

Both exhibitions open on Thursday, Sept. 4 with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in each gallery. Admission is free and both are open to the public. The exhibitions will run until Oct. 5.
