Del Toro appointed to UMW BOV after Tate resigns

A Stafford business owner has been appointed to the University of Mary Washington’s Board of Visitors following the resignation of member Tabitha Geary Tate.

Tate, who had only served on the board for a year, had three years left in her tenure and resigned for undisclosed reasons.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe appointed Carlos Del Toro to the board Friday.

Del Toro is founder, CEO and president of SBG Technology Solutions Inc., a Washington-based engineering services and consulting firm.

A former naval officer and White House Fellow, Del Toro is a native of Havana, Cuba.

He was recognized by the Small Business Administration as the Small Business Person of the Year in the region four years ago.

He is a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and holds advanced degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School, George Washington University and the Naval War College.

He serves as director on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Council on Small Business and as a director on the Rappahannock Goodwill Industries Board of Directors. He has served on numerous gubernatorial boards in Virginia.

Del Toro’s term will expire in 2017.
