Just six tickets remain for the University of Mary Washington‘s first athletics gala.

The gala will be held May 22 at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center in Fredericksburg to raise funds for the department.

Tickets cost $125 for a single ticket and $1,000 for a table of 10 attendees. The event will feature live music, dinner and a silent auction.

The gala will also feature a live auction for items including jewelry, tickets to the 2014 Redskins/Cowboys game, air tickets for anywhere in the United States and season passes to Celebrate Virginia Live.

A portion of the ticket cost is tax deductible.

The evening will be hosted by NFL hall-of-famer Darrell Green, who now works with UMW as special assistant for student–athlete development and public relations.

Green will be joined at the gala by Washington Redskins DeAngelo Hall and Pierre Garçon.

President Rick Hurley and athletic director Ken Tyler will kick off the evening’s featured speeches.

Then, Darrell Green will discuss the vision of UMW’s athletics program and the recently founded Eagle Club.

He will be followed by Hall, whose talk will focus on the community surrounding college athletics and what that experience is like for students. He will also talk about how the athletic community in Virginia has affected him. From Chesapeake, he had the opportunity to come home and play for the Washington Redskins.

Garçon will then take the stage to discuss what makes Division III athletics different. He transitioned from a DIII school to professional athletics.

“We want to be Fredericksburg’s team,” Tyler said. “We are invested in and play for the community. Here in athletics, we serve as the front porch of the campus.”

UMW hopes to make the gala an annual event.
