Don’t want to drive the kids to Washington or Richmond for entertainment this summer? You’re in luck.

The University of Mary Washington is launching a concert series aimed at bringing world-class, child-friendly events to Fredericksburg.

UMW’s Philharmonic Orchestra’s new concert series for children, the “Fiddlestix Summer Concert Series,” will debut late this summer, according to a university release.

The series begins Saturday, Aug. 9, in the William M. Anderson Center with a performance by the popular Laurie Berkner Band.

Berkner has been called “the pied piper of preschool music” and a “children’s music superstar.”

According to the bands’s website, “Laurie was the first recording artist ever to perform in music videos on Nick Jr., and appeared regularly on the network’s series Jack’s Big Music Show.  Her latest television project is a new short-form animated musical preschool series, Sing It, Laurie!, which debuted in the spring of 2103 on 24-hour preschool television channel Sprout. Sing It, Laurie! stars Laurie’s voice and features her original music written for the series.”

Tickets for the Laurie Berkner Band concert will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 26 here.
