UMW hosting Relay for Life this weekend

The University of Mary Washington is holding a Relay for Life event this weekend, April 5 and 6 form 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Relay for Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society, allows local teams to camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track for up to 24 hours “because cancer never sleeps.”

In a newsletter to faculty and staff, UMW president Rick Hurley said Relay for Life “provides an excellent opportunity for the UMW community to come together in the fight against cancer.”

UMW holds the event annually and this year hopes to raise $54,000.

Currently, they have fundraised just over $33,000.

The event is open to the public and will be held at the Battleground athletic complex.
