Saturday’s crane removal will close area around Convergence Center

The tower crane at the University of Mary Washington’s Information and Technology Convergence Center construction site will be taken down Saturday, Nov. 9, closing the immediate vicinity to the public.

“This is a major undertaking and requires considerable coordination and particular attention to safety,” said a notice in a UMW staff newsletter.

The all-day project will require a road closure from the side door of Jepson Hall, UMW’s science center, to the Simpson Library parking lot.

Since most of the work will be overhead and will include moving large sections of the crane, no pedestrians or vehicles will be allowed in the area, the notice said.

All traffic during the work period will be detoured onto College Avenue.

Crews will begin work at 6:30 a.m. and removal should be finished by 6 p.m.
