Deborah Tannen to speak on electronic communication at UMW

New York Times bestselling author Deborah Tannen will present a lecture called “Conversational Style in Digital Discourse: Texting, Email, and IM as Cross-Cultural Communication Across Genders and Generations” at the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall, according to a university release.

Tannen is the author of “You Just Don’t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation,” which was on the New York Times best seller list for nearly four years, including eight months as No. 1.

According to the release, Tannen is an expert on conversational style, cross-cultural communication and gender differences. She appears frequently on television and radio programs to speak on language and language use in everyday social interaction.
