Roadwork roundup

I quick rundown of this week’s planned roadwork includes maintenance work and lane closures at the Falmouth intersection.

The overnight lane closures at the Falmouth intersection started Sunday night.

The work will be done from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays for the next three weeks.

A lane will be closed in each direction so crews can do sewer and utility work for the project at U.S. 1, U.S. 17 and Route 218. The lanes will be reopened at 5 each morning.

Also in Stafford, on Tuesday crews will be striping Route 610 in Garrisonville, so expect delays.

In Spotsylvania, there will be milling and paving work between on Interstate 95 between the Massaponax and State Route 3 exits.

As has been the norm the past several weeks, crews will be doing maintenance work on numerous roads in the area.

Stafford County

Route 1 @ Falmouth

(New) Sunday – Thursday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.; one lane will be closed on Route 1 north and south at the intersection of Route 1/Route 17/Route 218 at Falmouth.  Crews will be performing sewer and utility work associated with the Falmouth Intersection Improvement project.  This work will continue nightly for approximately three weeks.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

(New) Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; crews will be line striping on Route 610 between Eustace Road and the I-95 interchange. Motorists should be alert to slow moving vehicles and avoid passing in the work zone.

Route 656 (Greenbank Road)

Stafford County utility work continues on Greenbank Road at 7 a.m. on Monday Greenbank Road will be closed to through traffic between Banks Ford Parkway and the dead end.  The road will remain closed until 6 p.m. on Friday. This is a 24-hour. road closure. Local traffic will be provided access. Greenbank Road will be reopened to all traffic at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Routine Maintenance Activities

(Update) Crews will be performing routine maintenance at the following locations this week.  Motorists should expect brief delays between 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

  • Route 1 – between the Falmouth Bridge and Route 630 (Courthouse Road) (Monday –Thursday)
  • Route 3 (Kings Highway) – sidewalk sweeping (Monday – Thursday)
  • Route 218 (White Oak Road)  – sidewalk sweeping (Monday – Thursday)
  • Route 652 (Truslow Road) – tree trimming. Expect brief delays (Monday – Thursday)

Spotsylvania County

Interstate 95 North

(New) Sunday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m., Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.; motorists should expect lane closures and delays on I-95 north between Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) and Exit 130 (Rt. 3/Fredericksburg) for milling and paving work. Lane closures will be in place during the following hours:

Sunday

  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed

Monday – Thursday

  • 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. – one lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed

All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. To avoid delays use Route 1 north.

Interstate 95 Bridge Inspection

(New) Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; crews will be performing a bridge safety inspection on the Route 17 (Mills Drive) bridge over I-95 located just south of Exit 126 (Rt. 1/Spotsylvania). One lane will be closed on I-95 south from 9 a.m. until noon, followed by one lane closed on I-95 north from noon until 3:30 p.m.

Routine Maintenance Activities

(Update) Crews will be performing routine maintenance at the following locations this week. Motorists should expect brief delays between 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

  • Route 639 (Leavells Road) – drainage work at various locations (Monday – Friday)
  • Route 621 (Orange Plank Road) – shoulder work at various locations. Expect brief delays (Monday – Friday)

Caroline County

Route 607

(Update) Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; crews will be placing stone on Route 607 from the Spotsylvania County line to Route 606 (Stonewall Jackson Road).  One lane will be closed in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance Activities

(Update) Crews will be performing routine maintenance at the following locations this week.  Motorists should expect brief delays between 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

  • Route 301 – shoulder work at various locations (Monday – Friday)
  • Belmont Subdivision – concrete repairs. Expect brief delays. (Monday – Friday)

Under Construction

Caroline County

Route 639 Widening

Route 639 is being widened, creating a new left turn lane near the Route 1 intersection. During construction the posted speed limit will be lowered to 35 mph in the work zone. One lane will remain open in each direction during construction. Motorists should be alert to traffic pattern changes in this area. The project completion date is May 2015.

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue

Fall Hill Avenue is closed to all traffic at the Rappahannock Canal bridge through late 2014 for a bridge replacement project. Motorists should use Cowan Boulevard as a detour route.

King George County

Route 206

The intersection of Route 206, Owens Drive and Windsor Drive is being widened to accommodate new left turn lanes and right turn lanes. Single lane closures will be in place weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Project completion date is December 2014.

Stafford County

Route 17

Route 17 is being widened from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles.  The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.

Route 1 Bridge over Aquia Creek

Crews are replacing the Route 1 bridge at Aquia Creek, located just south of Telegraph Road. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone and periodic lane closures. Estimated completion date is August 2015.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17/Route 218)

Construction is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on Butler Road and Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection.  The project is expected to be complete by September 2015.
