Stafford road closed because of bridge overpass damage
UPDATE: The road should open soon, according to Bill Kennedy with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The bridge, however, will be closed to train traffic while CSX and VDOT crews inspect the structure, he said.
At this point, no charges have been filed against the driver, whose name has not been released.
Stafford County sent out an alert at 11:46 a.m. saying that Harrell Road is closed because of damage to the CSX railroad bridge spanning the popular cut-through.
A truck hit the overpass at about 11:30 a.m. and became stuck, according to spokesman Bill Kennedy with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. There were no injuries in the crash.
“This is not the first time this has happened,” he said.
As of 1 p.m., crews were still in the process of removing the truck, said the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Kelly Hannon.
She said there is no estimate on when the road will reopen.
Harrell Road is used as a cut-through between Forbes Street and Deacon Road.
