Colonial Beach road to close for start of bridge work
A detour is set to start Tuesday for the Mattox Creek bridge project outside Colonial Beach.
Route 205 will be closed at the bridge at 7 a.m. so project equipment can be set up, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The road is scheduled to be reopened at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Crews will be setting up barriers, equipment and temporary traffic lights.
Signs for a detour, to routes 3 and 301, have been posted in the project area.
When the bridge reopens, traffic will be able to use only one lane. The temporary signals will control traffic crossing the bridge while work is being done.
The $8.1-million project will replace the structurally deficient bridge, which will have wider lanes and shoulders when work is completed in July 2016.
