HOV lane opening, closing times to change Monday
The HOV lanes will start closing and opening earlier beginning Monday, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced Thursday.
On weekdays, the northbound HOV lanes will start closing at 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m.,
11 a.m. instead of noon VDOT said. In turn, the HOV lanes will open for southbound traffic at noon instead of 1 p.m.
The opening and closing schedule will stay in place through the summer.
The changes are an attempt to ease congestion on southbound I-95, VDOT said in a release.
One major impact on I-95 travel has been the 29-mile-long express lanes project, which is set to be completed and open by early next year. There also is a shoulder improvement project on the interstate in Prince William County.
