VRE July 4 tickets go on sale Wednesday morning
The tickets for the Virginia Railway Express July 4 trains to Washington, D.C., will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday, the commuter rail service announced Tuesday.
This marks the first time VRE “Firecracker Special” trains will make runs for the fireworks celebration in D.C. in years, and it’s something VRE wants to continue doing.
Two trains will run to D.C., one on the Fredericksburg line and the other on the Manassas line. VRE expects about 1,000 riders on each train.
The tickets will be sold exclusively online at www.vrespecialevents.org/firecracker-trains.htm. Tickets cost $10. You’ll need a PayPal account to buy the tickets.
On the Fredericksburg lines, the first train will leave the Leeland Road station at 3:45 p.m. It will make stops at Brooke (4 p.m.), Quantico (4:21), Woodbridge (4:43) and Lorton (4:58).
VRE said the Fredericksburg line train will drop off riders at Union Station between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The fireworks show is slated to start at 9:10 p.m. on the National Mall. The walk from the station to the mall should take 20 to 25 minutes.
The VRE trains are scheduled to leave D.C. at 10:45 p.m.
