E-ZPass fees nixed
The monthly fees for E-ZPasses have been eliminated.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday signed into law legislation that will keep users of the electronic toll device from having to pay 50-cent for a regular E-ZPass or $1 monthly for a flex transponder, used by those whose vehicles have at least three occupants and do not pay a toll.
The toll devices are needed for use of the new electronically tolled, high occupancy express lanes, already on Interstate 495 and coming soon on Interstate 95.
The expanded I-95 lanes will run from Garrisonville to the beltway. The new lanes are expected to open by early next year.
The nearly $1-billion project is a public-private partnership between the state and Transurban and Fluor.
