Lane shift set for U.S. 17 in Stafford
There will be some lane shifts happening next week in the U.S. 17 widening work zone in Stafford.
The northbound lanes between Sanford Drive and International Parkway will be shifted to temporary lanes in stages, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The lane shifts, which will move traffic to the right of the existing lanes, will start Tuesday between Sanford Drive and McLane Drive.
The work will be done from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two northbound lanes will stay open while the work is being done.
Cones, barrels and signs will be set up to help drivers navigate the lane shifts.
The shift is being done so the median can be paved. Once that work is completed, northbound traffic will be shifted slightly left into the freshly paved lanes. Crews will then start working on the right side of the road.
The $48.9-million project will widen U.S. 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway. The project is slated to be completed by December 2016.
