Update set on Falmouth intersection
The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold an update meeting on Monday to tell residents about the Falmouth intersection project.
The meeting will run from 5 to 7 p.m. in the auditorium across Deacon Road from the main VDOT building.
There will be a brief presentation, along with construction plans and maps. VDOT officials and the contractor will also be available to answer questions.
Construction on the intersection—at U.S. 1, U.S. 17 and Butler Road—is scheduled to start in March. Crews have been doing preliminary work, including demolishing buildings and moving utilities underground, since December 2012.
The $25-million project will widen the intersection by adding lanes, which is supposed to improve flow at one of the area’s most congested spots.
Work is scheduled to be completed in September 2015.
