Deadly crash closes northbound I-95
Virginia State Police have released some details on Thursday morning’s fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Prince William County.
According to the investigation, a Ford Focus went out of control in the northbound left lane and hit a tractor-trailer in the center lane. Both vehicles veered into a Honda Accord in the left lane.
The Focus and the tractor-trailer continued on the left shoulder and hit a concrete jersey wall. The vehicles kept going for about 150 feet and stopped against a guardrail.
The driver and passenger in the Focus died at the scene. Both were wearing their seat belts. Police have not released their names.
The drivers in the tractor-trailer and Honda were not injured. Both were wearing their seat belts.
All northbound lanes were closed after the crash and re-opened at about 12:40 p.m.
Two people died in a crash on Interstate 95 near the Triangle exit in Prince William County earlier Thursday, the Virginia State Police said.
The crash happened just before 10 a.m. in the northbound lanes. A tractor-trailer and a car were involved in the crash, state police said.
All northbound lanes are closed and traffic is being rerouted onto U.S. 1. so expect big delays on the interstate and highway for some time.
The Virginia Department of Transportation’s 511 video feed shows a long line of traffic on the interstate in the area of the crash.
