VDOT preparing for early-morning wintry mix
Closings, Late Openings and Cancellations: Check here for the latest weather-related schedule changes.
Just as the region gets over the freezing temperatures from earlier this week, it looks like a wintry mix could be on the way.
And that could make for a messy Friday morning commute.
The forecast calls for a low of 30 degrees overnight, with the possibility of freezing rain after 5 a.m. It could become all rain by about 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to send out crews early Friday morning to monitor and treat roads in advance of possible freezing rain, according to a release from the highway department.
Crews will be on Interstate 95 as well as primary and some secondary roads in Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George and Westmoreland counties.
The highway department warns drivers to be especially alert for ice and slick spots on exit ramps, bridges and low-volume secondary roads.
