A lot of people were running late this morning. Blame it on icy roads and numerous incidents. So far no major incidents have been reported.

There were reports of backups on numerous area roads this morning, including U.S. 1, State Route 3 and Interstate 95.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said they handled numerous minor incidents throughout the morning because of the icy conditions. There were no major crashes, he said. But he noted that one incident on northbound I-95 near the Route 3 exit ramp involved five vehicles. There was no major damage or injuries in that crash, which happened at about 5 a.m.

Route 3 and the stretch of I-95 in that area seemed to have the most issues, Tyler said. The 2500 block of the highway, near the I-95 exit, was closed in each direction at about 7 a.m. because of ice. The highway was reopened about a half-hour later.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reported black ice on some area roads. Crews were out this morning treating roads in Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
