On Friday and Saturday, there will be a traffic shift on U.S. 1 as part of the Aquia Creek bridge replacement project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, one lane of northbound U.S. 1 will be closed at the bridge location.

During that time, traffic will be shifted to a temporary two-lane bridge.

Between 9 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday, one lane of southbound U.S. 1 will be closed and traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes.

This new, temporary traffic pattern will remain in place until summer 2014.

The $5.5-million replacement of the 88-year-old bridge started in December 2012 and should be completed in August 2015.
