Paving planned for King George neighborhoods

MORE: See all local transportation news

This week, paving and bridge inspections are planned for area roads.

Much of the paving work is slated for King George neighborhoods.

In Stafford, look for delays in the Centreport Parkway area as crews will be inspecting bridges over U.S. 1 and Interstate 95.

In Spotsylvania, the intersection of Benchmark and Mine roads will be closed for railroad crossing work.

The typical lane closures on I-95 as part of the express lanes work will be put on hold for election day Tuesday.

VDOT Hot Spots

Stafford County

Interstate 95

(New) Wednesday - Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; one lane will be closed on I-95 north and south at the Route 652 bridge over I-95.  The bridge is located between Exit 136 (Centreport Pkwy.) and Exit 133 (Rt. 17/Falmouth). Crews will be conducting routine a bridge safety inspection.

Route 1

(New) Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; one lane will be closed in each direction on Route 1 from just north of Enon Road to just south of Musante Lane.  Crews will be inspecting the Centerport Pkwy. bridge over Route 1.

Route 628 (American Legion Road)

(Update) Monday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; motorists should expect delays on Route 628 at the bridge over I-95.  Crews are repairing the bridge deck.  Motorist should also expect periodic lane closures on I-95 north and south at mile marker 138 located just north of Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).

Spotsylvania  County

CSX Crossing at Benchmark Road and Mine Road

(New) Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday the rail crossing at Benchmark Road and Mine Road will be closed to traffic while CSX crews repair the timber rails crossing. The intersection will be closed 24 hours a day through Friday, Nov. 8.  Motorists should use Route 2 (Tidewater Trail) or Route 17 (Mills Drive) as an alternate route.

Caroline County

Interstate 95

(Update) Monday - Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a..m.; crews will be installing raised pavement markers on I-95 north between Exit 104 (Rt. 207/Carmel Church) and Exit 118 (Rt. 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in this mobile work zone.

King George County

Subdivision Paving

(New) On Monday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. crews will be milling and paving at the following locations in King George County this week:

Oakland Park

  • Route 1020 east – from Route 1025 (Passapatanzy Road) to Route 603 (Fletchers Chapel Road).
  • Route 1021 north – from Route 603 (Fletchers Chapel Road) to Route 1025 (Passapatanzy Road).

Maple Ridge

  • Route 1013 – from the cul-de-sac to Route 218 (Caledon Road).

Summerbeam Commons

  • Route 1014 north – from the cul-de-sac to Route 218 (Caledon Road).

Route 607

(New) Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 607 just north of Route 660.  Crews will be milling in this area.

Under Construction

Stafford County

Route 17

Route 17 is being widening from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The speed limit is reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph on northbound and southbound Route 17 between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway. Motorists should be alert for periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.

Route 1 Bridge over Aquia Creek

Crews are replacing the Route 1 bridge at Aquia Creek, located just south of Telegraph Road. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone and periodic lane closures. Estimated completion date is August 2015.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17/Route 218)

Utility relocation work is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Construction work will begin in early 2014.

Route 218 (Chatham Heights Road)

A sidewalk construction project is underway the westbound side of Chatham Heights Road and along Castle Rock Drive between the WaWa and Castle Rock Drive.  Motorists will be restricted on one lane in the work zone between 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The project completion date is November 2013.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1115 (Maple Grove Drive) – Project Complete

The culvert replacement project is complete. The temporary traffic signal has been removed and normal traffic conditions have resumed.

Interstate 95 Express Lanes

NIGHT WORK

Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and between 11:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights unless otherwise noted. 

  • I-95 North from Garrisonville Road (Route 610) to the Prince William Parkway (Route 294) - Single lane closed Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Friday from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. for sign structures, erosion and sediment control, and barrier work.
  • I-95 South from the Prince William Parkway (Route 294) to Telegraph Road - Single lane closure Monday through Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. for excavation, grading, barrier, sign structures, and erosion and sediment control work.
  • I-95 South from Telegraph Road to Garrisonville Road (Route 610) - Expect intermittent full road closures for up to 30 minutes Monday through Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. for steel erection and lagging work.
  • I-95 North from the Prince William Parkway to I-495 - Two lanes closed Mondaythrough Thursday from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Friday from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. for sign structures and bridge work.
  • I-95 South from I-495 to the Prince William Parkway (Route 294) - Two lanes closed Monday through Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. for sign structures, drilled shafts, barrier, and survey work.
  • I-395 North and South from I-495 to Seminary Road (Route 420) - Two lanes closed Monday through Thursday from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday through Saturday from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. for sign structures work.
  • I-395 North and South from Seminary Road (Route 420) to I-495 - One lane closed Monday through Thursday from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday through Saturday from 10:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. for barrier, drilled shafts, sign structures, and drainage work.
  • I-395/95 Reversible HOV Lanes from Dumfries Road (Route 234) to the Pentagon - Full road closures Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.; Friday through Saturday from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.; and Sunday from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for excavation, backfill, barrier demolition, and conduit installation work.
  • I-395/95 Reversible HOV Lanes from Dumfries Road (Route 234) to the Pentagon - One lane closed Monday through Thursday from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m.; Friday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; and Sunday from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. for excavation, backfill, barrier demolition, and conduit installation work.
  • Duke Street (Route 236) Ramp East to I-395 South - Full ramp closure Monday throughThursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. for soundwall work. Detour: Traffic will be directed to I-395 North to Seminary Road and return.
  • Gordon Boulevard (Route 123) North and South at I-95 - Single lane closed Mondaythrough Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. for sign structures work.
  • Old Keene Mill Road (Route 644) West at I-95 - Single lane closed Monday throughThursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday through Saturday from 9:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. for sign structures work.
