Business community weighs in on area’s I-95 corridor issue
In a story by Free Lance-Star reporter Lindley Estes, the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce stated its support for solutions to the area’s Interstate 95 corridor. The chamber said it approves of the Rappahannock River Crossing project and an outer connector, both of which were approved as solutions by the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Also, earlier this week, the chamber gave a presentation laying out problems the area’s congestion causes for local businesses and supporting the crossing project and outer connector, a western bypass that would run from Centreport Parkway in Stafford to an area west of Gordon Road on State Route 3 in Spotsylvania.
The I-95 corridor issue has led to a split on the FAMPO Policy Committee, pitting Spotsylvania representatives against Stafford and Fredericksburg officials.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is now studying the issue, using suggested solutions from all three jurisdictions. Click here for a story on the pitches by each locality.
