I-95 to close temporarily Wednesday for 500 bikers headed to D.C.
Expect delays on Interstate 95 in North Stafford at about 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The northbound lanes will be closed for 15 minutes at the Garrisonville exit so some 500 motorcyclists can get on the interstate.
The group of motorcyclists will then get on the HOV lanes, escorted by the Virginia State Police.
While it could not be confirmed, the motorcyclists who will gather in Garrisonville likely are connected to a group calling itself 2 Million Bikers to D.C. (Click here to see the group’s Facebook page.)
The group plans to ride into D.C., even though its permit request to ride non-stop through the city was denied.
The 2 Million Bikers to D.C. group formed what is expected to be a mass collective of motorcyclists from across the nation that plan to ride into the nation’s capital to remember the 9/11 attacks and to commemorate those who have fought in Afghanistan.
According to media reports, the group also formed after what was originally called the Million Muslim March, which will be held on the National Mall, was announced. The name of that gathering has since been changed to Million American March Against Fear.
