An early Thursday morning crash on southbound Interstate 95 sent a New York man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened near the Stafford Courthouse exit at 7:45 a.m. when a 2002 Dodge pickup truck, driven by 61-year-old Robert H. Lehmann, ran off the road, hit several trees and overturned, according to Virginia State Police. The vehicle also caught fire, but emergency personnel were able to pull Lehmann out of the truck before he was burned, said Sgt. Les Tyler.

Still, the man suffered “significant” injuries, according to Mark Doyle, assistant chief with the Stafford County Fire & Rescue Department.

Lehmann was taken to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment.

Tyler said the investigation into the crash continues.
