I-95 closure set for Friday night
Work on the Interstate 95 express lanes will shut down all southbound lanes Friday night and into Saturday morning.
The full lane closure will happen at the Fairfax County Parkway so crews can set a 109-ton steel beam in place as support for a flyover ramp, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The right lane will be closed at 9:30 p.m., with a second lane set to be shut down at 11 p.m., followed by the full closure at midnight.
Traffic will be diverted to the HOV lanes at mile marker 169. Drivers looking to reach the Fairfax County Parkway or Lorton Road area will need to use Backlick Road (Exit 167). Traffic then will need to use “Furnace Road and Lorton Road via Route 1,” according to the VDOT release.
The lanes will start to be reopened at 6 a.m. Saturday, with all lanes scheduled to be reopened by 9 a.m.
“Following the initial steel placement,” according to the release, “bridge work will continue over the lanes of I-95 South during the following week, August 26 – 30. This will require multiple lane closures and intermittent full road closures up to 30 minutes each night after midnight.”
