Express lanes work to close I-95 lanes
Area drivers should notice a couple of big projects this week that could impact traffic.
On Interstate 95, crews are set to start utility work that will include “intermittent full road closures” on each side of the interstate at mile marker 147, near the Quantico Marine Base exit, according to Steve Titunik with Megaprojects, which oversees the express lanes work for the Virginia Department of Transportation. That work is supposed to be done from midnight to 4 a.m., with lane closures of 15 minutes while Dominion Power crews remove and install overhead electrical wires as part of the express lanes project.
The other work, the demolition of buildings around the Falmouth intersection, is supposed to start up again. Weather permitting, crews are supposed to start tearing down the old Blazes building at the Falmouth intersection by around 11 a.m. (today’s rain might delay that). More demolition at the intersection is supposed to be done later in the week. That work will continue for weeks.
