Arrest made in December fatal hit-and-run crash
Police have found the suspect in the fatal hit-and-run crash that happened on U.S. 17 in December.
Virginia State Police said a tip led police in the town of Culpeper to Diego Vazquez Mendoza, who was arrested without incident Wednesday morning. The 32-year-old Culpeper County resident remains in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center without bond.
The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Dec. 23 in Fauquier County when a Ford F–150 rear-ended a southbound 2004 Scion, according to state police. They believe Mendoza was behind the wheel of the pickup and fled the scene after the crash.
The Scion driver, Douglas Rabren, 58, of Stafford, died at the scene. A passenger, Debra Rabren, 59, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries. The driver in another car involved in the incident was unharmed.
