Deteriorated Spotsylvania bridges replaced by temporary structures

Travelers of Spotswood Furnace Road in Spotsylvania will notice the detours are now gone near a pair of bridge replacement projects.

You can now use two temporary bridges while the deteriorated permanent structures remain closed, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The bridges, which span Laroque Run and Pipe Dam Run, have been closed since Oct. 3, after “annual inspections of the bridges found severe deterioration, necessitating their closure,” according to VDOT.

The highway department is developing plans to replace both of the timber-deck bridges, which were built in 1932.
