Santa train stop to move this year
A Civil War battle will force the ever-popular Santa train to a different pick-up spot this year.
Because of crowding expected from the 150-year anniversary of the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Virginia Railway Express will run its Santa train out of the Leeland Road station in Stafford instead of in the city. The Leeland Road station is across from Conway Elementary School.
Tickets have not gone on sale for the rides, which will take place on Dec. 8. The Santa trains will run out of four stations: Burke Centre, Leeland Road, Manassas and Woodbridge.
The tickets sell out fast, both online and in person. Last year, VRE sold 7,500 tickets.
Kids get to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus on the trains, and the event is a fundraiser for Operation Lifesaver.
