This week’s express lanes work impacts on I-95

Here’s a quick look at impacts from the express lanes work drivers might notice in the coming week along northbound Interstate 95.

Crews are working in the median of the interstate from Garrisonville to the north for the new electronically tolled HOV lanes. (Click here and here for recent coverage.)

Here’s the details sent out by Virginia Megaprojects:

Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • I-95 reversible HOV lanes from Dumfries Rd. (Route 234) to Duke St. - Road closed Monday – Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday night from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for barrier work, lane shift and conduit installation. Traffic will be directed to use the general purpose lanes.
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 268) south to I-95 south - Ramp closed Monday night for barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to continue south, take exit toI-95 north, stay to the right to enter onto Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 286) north and follow signs to I-95 south.
  • I-395 north and south between Exit 2, Edsall Rd. to Exit 3, Duke St. - Left lane closed Monday – Friday nights for clearing.
  • I-95 north and south from Cardinal Dr. overpass to Exit 160, Gordon Rd. (Route 123) - Single lane closed Monday – Friday for barrier work.
  • I-95 south at Exit 166, Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) - Right lane closed Monday – Friday nights for pile driving.
  • I-95 south from Opitz Blvd. overpass to Exit 156, Dale Blvd. – Two lanes closed Monday – Friday nights for lane shift.
  • I-95 south at Exit 150, Joplin Rd. (Route 619) - Two lanes closed Monday – Friday nights for lane shift.

Daytime work – Closures occur Monday – Thursday between 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted.

  • I-95/395 reversible HOV lanes from Franconia Road (Route 644) to Cardinal Dr. overpass - Single lane closed Monday – Friday for groundwork, erosion and sediment control.
  • I-95 north and south between Cardinal Dr. overpass and Exit 160, Gordon Rd. (Route 123) - Single lane closed Monday – Friday for ground work.
  • I-95 north and south between Exit 143, Garrisonville Rd. (Route 620) and Exit 152, Dumfries Rd. (Route 234) - Single lane closed Monday – Friday for barrier movement.
  • I-95 south from Exit 150, Joplin Rd. (Route 619) underpass to Exit 148, Russell Rd. - Left lane closed Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for barrier movement.
  • I-395 north and south between I-495 and Exit 4, Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday – Friday for clearing, test bores and survey work.
  • Franconia Road (Route 644) west to I-95 north - Single right lane of ramp closed Monday – Friday for clearing.
  • Loisdale Road north and south from Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 289) to Constance Ave. - Single lane closed Monday – Friday for ground work.
  • Russell Rd. east at I-95 overpass - Right lane closed Monday – Friday for clearing.
