Detour in place for Colonial Beach bridge project

The Ridge Road (Route 205) bridge outside of Colonial Beach has been closed for a rehabilitation project, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced Friday. The beginning of the project was delayed one day because of Hurricane Sandy.

The $3.7-million project will rehabilitate the bridge’s superstructure and fix the concrete substructure, according to VDOT.

Traffic will have to take a 7-mile detour while the work is being done. Signs will mark the detour route. Also, a temporary traffic signal has been set up at the intersection of Ridge and Longfield roads.

The project is scheduled to be finished in March, but the detour will be lifted in February, according to VDOT.
