Falmouth Bridge work postponed

The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced that the work planned on the Falmouth Bridge sidewalk and railings has been delayed. The department didn’t say what led to the delay or when work will begin.

The bridge, set to undergo its annual inspection Wednesday and Thursday, is scheduled to get a $383,000 rehab of the structure’s crumbling concrete.

Work was originally scheduled to start Monday night but didn’t.

The 69-year-old bridge, listed by the state as functionally obsolete, spans the Rappahannock River and carries about 30,000 vehicles a day.

These orange paint marks are prep work for a project that will fix the concrete on sidewalks and railings on the Falmouth bridge.
