Express lanes work impacts coming to I-95
Commuters and other regular travelers of Interstate 95 north of Fredericksburg have noticed the work going on in the median where the new express lanes will be added and expanded.
That work will lead to changes along the interstate during construction of the new HOV/HOT lanes, which is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2014.
The first change will happen Oct. 1 for southbound HOV traffic that uses the “slip ramp” south of the Fairfax County Parkway to merge back onto I-95 lanes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Megaprojects publication.
The new slip ramp will be south of the Springfield interchange.
The nearest next ramp for traffic to leave the HOV lanes will then be at exit 161 to U.S. 1.
