Teen dies in Fauquier crash Monday morning
A 16-year-old Catlett boy died in an early-morning crash in Fauquier County, according to the Virginia State Police.
The single-car crash happened on Ritchie Road near Elk Run Road, according to Corinne Geller with the state police. Three teenagers were in a Toyota Camry headed to school when the car ran off the rural road near U.S. 17.
Police said the Camry was headed west on Ritchie Road when it ran off the right side of the road, the driver over-corrected and the car veered off the left side of the road and hit a tree.
Ian Heflin, who was in the front passenger seat, died at the scene, police said. His 14-year-old sister, Brianna E. Heflin, was in the backseat. She suffered severe injuries and was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
The 17-year-old driver of the car was not injured.
All three were wearing their seat belts.
State trooper R.W. Marshall is investigating the crash.
