City crews filling small sinkhole at William and Princess Anne intersection

City crews work on a sinkhole at the intersection of William and Princess Anne streets.

Expect to see a lane closure most of the day at the intersection of William and Princess Anne streets in the city.

City crews are repairing “a very small” sinkhole that was discovered late last week, said Shawn Beavon, the deputy superintendent of Fredericksburg’s public works department.

Crews initially patched the hole, but today they have dug in to see the extent of the problem and what might have caused it, Beavon said. They should finish repairing the hole today.

Beavon said the sinkhole could have been caused by past work in the spot.

While the work is being done, the right lane of William Street and the left lane on Princess Anne Street will remain closed near the intersection.

Other City Roadwork

UPDATE (1:27 p.m.): The work on Fall Hill Avenue has been postponed until Monday.

Expect delays on Fall Hill Avenue the next few days as crews do utility work along the shoulder in the area of the canal bridge. There will be flaggers controlling traffic in the area.

The work is scheduled to be done through Friday.
