Fall Hill Avenue crash leads to DUID charge

The head-on crash that closed Fall Hill Avenue late this morning allegedly was caused by a Fredericksburg man driving while on prescription drugs, according to police.

The crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. when an eastbound Honda crossed the double-yellow lines and ran head-on into a Ford van near the Interstate 95 bridge, according to Natatia Bledsoe, spokeswoman for the Fredericksburg Police Department.

The driver of the van, owned by Angel Rides, Inc., was not injured.

But the Honda driver, Nick Kastellos, suffered head injuries and was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he remained as of late this afternoon.

When the 29-year-old Fredericksburg resident gets out, however, he might be headed to jail as police charged him with felony DUID, Bledsoe said, adding that officers found prescription narcotics belonging to Kastellos at the scene.

The accident shut down Fall Hill for about a half-hour while the scene was cleaned up and both vehicles were towed away.
